William Broverman is an in-demand freelance bass trombonist and educator in Metro Vancouver. He was recently invited to speak at TEDxYouthDowsLake as a young leader in Canada’s classical music scene and was named in the 2021 edition of the CBC’s “30 Hot Classical Musicians Under 30” as the first bass trombonist to appear on the list.

William served four years as bass trombone with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Yucatán where he made his solo debut in 2018 performing the “Florida Concerto for Tenor and Bass Trombone” by Frigyes Hidas alongside OSY principal trombonist Todor Ivanov. Performed twice to sold-out crowds, William and Todor were praised for their “powerfully sweet and heterogeneous musicality” (yucatancultura.com) which brought audiences to their feet.

William has performed as a member of the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfonica de Yucatan, Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, Canada West Chamber Orchestra, Lion’s Gate Sinfonia, and the National Academy Orchestra of Canada. He has worked with notable conductors such as Alondra de la Parra, Bramwell Tovey, and Otto Tausk and has performed alongside vocal group Il Divo and Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter Natalia Lafourcade.

William appeared twice as faculty bass trombone for the Merida International Brass Festival and was invited as a guest trombone professor to the Conservatorio Plurinacional in La Paz, Bolivia in 2019. He was trombone and tuba instructor for the largest chapter of the Orquesta Sinfonica de la Nueva Escuela Mexicana in the State of Yucatan and regularly coached the students of the Banda Sinfonica de Yucatan in this time. He works regularly as a low brass clinician in schools across Metro Vancouver.

William began his post-secondary studies at Kwantlen Polytechnic University and later transferred to McGill University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music in 2016.
